I knew when I popped the back of the car open to a view of the Pacific that I’d made a right-on decision to leave Portland early and get a head start on our trip to Cape Meares, just west of Tillamook, on the Oregon Coast. Metro and I enjoyed this car/beach picnic in the tiny town of Netarts, a little bit south of our final destination. As much as I’ve loved Manzanita as an easy-to-reach destination from Portland, it was nice to explore some new places.
We headed to the beach house late afternoon and had the place all to ourselves for a few hours before the rest of our crowd arrived with the paella pan, after which a late night of cooking followed. The rest of the weekend was spent doing what you do at the beach for a lazy weekend—walking, eating, and talking late into the night.
